Mother's Day Sugar Cookies

Sweeten up Mum's day with baked-with-love treats. We’ve put together a recipe for you and you can find everything you need to decorate some expert looking treats for Mum. The kids will love getting involved too! 

You will need


  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg, vanilla and almond extracts.
  4. In another bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, and salt
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition. Once the dough forms a ball, stop mixing
  6. Test that the dough is sticky and holds a shape but doesn’t stick to your fingers. Do not chill the dough. Divide the dough into 2 balls, then form them into 5 cm thick rectangular discs. This will keep the dough from falling apart while rolling
  7. On a floured surface, roll each ball into a circle approximately 30 cm in diameter and 3 mm thick.
  8. Dip the cookie cutter in flour before each use and cut out shapes
  9. Bake the cookies on an ungreased baking tray(s) with baking paper. Bake for 8-11 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned
  10. Move the cookies to a cooling rack to cool completely
  11. Decorate with the icing and sprinkles, serve and enjoy!
