Ingredients and Tools:
- Cake mix
- Buttercream icing (or alternative such as cream cheese)
- Pink and red candy melts*
- Cake pop sticks
- Edible glitter
- Valentine's Day sprinkles
*White candy melts can also be tinted. Please check out our blog for an easy step by step guide.
Instructions:
Step 1:
Follow the cake mix instructions to bake a delicious cake. Allow it to cool.
Step 2:
In a large bowl, crumble the cake until no large chunks remain. Slowly add spoonfuls of buttercream until the cake begins sticking together like a dough. Work the cake crumbs together and roll out flat. Ensure the thickness is suitable for placing onto a cake pop stick. Place in the fridge to chill.
Step 3:
Using the heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out adorable heart shapes from the chilled cake.
Step 4:
Melt a small amount of candy melts in the microwave. Dip one end of a cake pop stick into the melts and push it into the base of the cake heart. Set in the freezer for 20 minutes.
Step 5:
Melt a sufficient amount of candy melts in individual bowls for covering the hearts. Ensure your vessel is deep enough for an even coverage. Once the cake pops are firm, coat them in the melted candy melts. Gently tap the stick on the side of the bowl to remove any excess.
Step 6:
Before the candy melts set, decorate the cake pops with edible glitter or Valentine's Day sprinkles for an extra festive touch.
Step 7:
Insert the cake pop sticks into a styrofoam block or glass filled with M&M's or rice to hold them upright while the candy melts set. Enjoy!
